How do you envision the future of geothermal energy, and what role do you believe GDC plays in shaping that future?
Geothermal energy has an exciting future ahead, as we look to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions. In Kenya, geothermal energy is expected to grow with the implementation of a working mechanism of carbon credit compensation and other financial grants. These measures will stimulate the financial perspective of geothermal development in Kenya and help the country achieve its goal of increasing its geothermal energy capacity.
GDC takes the upfront risk of geothermal development, which includes drilling and infrastructure, thereby opening up more geothermal fields. Additionally, by adopting the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, GDC is able to stimulate growth by involving the private sector in power-plant development and direct use projects.
