My role in preventing the spread of COVID -19 at the workplace – focus on our drivers

What is your name and designation?

My name is Richard Ong’ayo; a Senior Driver at GDC

What steps do you take to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 at work?

I wear a face mask all the time and I always remind my passengers to wear theirs as well. This helps us protect each other from COVID-19 infection. I either wash my hands often or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to clean them. I have a sanitizer in the car that my passengers can use as well. I also adhere to social distance guidelines.

What are the preventive measures you are taking to protect your work area from COVID-19?

As a driver, I am very keen on ensuring the cleanliness of surfaces that my passengers and I frequently touch. I often sanitize the interior of the vehicle paying keen attention to the steering wheel, the gear stick and the door handles.

I only carry two passengers in my vehicle in accordance with COVID -19 social distancing guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization. Before the pandemic, I carried three to four passengers.

What message do you have to your colleagues regarding COVID-19?

It is important to follow the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization guidelines in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The guidelines are for our own good.
