The GDC Audit department has clinched the second runners-up award under the State Corporations, Agencies, and Departments category at the Inaugural Internal Audit and Risk Awards ceremony held on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Nairobi. The event was organized by the Kenya Institute of Internal Auditors and aimed at recognizing organizations and individuals that demonstrated excellence in Internal Audit Governance.
Out of sixteen state corporations drawn from various ministries and departments, GDC emerged as one of the top three corporations that aligned its practices with the international professional practice framework standards for internal audit. The corporations were gauged on their planning and reporting processes during the audit cycle that ended in 2020.
Mr. Godfrey Shitsama, the GDC Internal Audit Manager, expressed his delight and noted that the award recognized the efficiency of GDC’s internal processes and the progress the department had made in implementing best practices.
“This award is a testament to the contribution that the Audit team has made to GDC’s business processes,” said Mr. Shitsama. “The next step is to partner with GDC’s other assurance providers that is Risk, Quality Assurance and Safety, Health and Environment departments, and leverage collective effort to further improve GDC’s business processes,” he added.
The members of the Internal Audit team were thrilled at the recognition. “This is exciting – next year, our target is to bring home the winning trophy,” noted Internal Auditor David Kanyi.
“It has elevated the GDC brand and placed us in the league of top-performing audit teams within the nation,” said an elated Beatrice Awuor from the Internal Audit department.
As part of future considerations, the auditors were encouraged to expand their scope beyond compliance auditing and engage in emerging areas such as climate change, artificial intelligence (AI), and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting.
Hearty congratulations to #TeamAudit!
