Malawi seeks GDCs expertise in capacity development

GDC recently hosted a team from Malawi’s Electricity Generation Company.  The nine-member delegation was led by Mr. Steven Kayira, the Manager, Projects Development and Contracts. They also visited the Menengai Geothermal Project, where they toured the various sites within the project area.

The GDC team was led by Strategy, Research and Innovation team shared the company’s Centre of Excellence training programmes on matters geothermal. Malawi has already done a pre-feasibility study on geothermal development and is keen on exploiting the resource.

“We are delighted to learn what GDC has accomplished. This is commendable. We are happy to be associated with you,” said Kayira who was also flanked by Ms. Jemimah Njeri Kariri, the Managing Director of Jeyax Development and Training Company – a Pretoria based company dealing with capacity trainings in the region.

Speaking during the meeting which was held at Kawi House, Nairobi, General Manager, Strategy, Research and Innovation Dr. George Muia, appreciated the visit adding that GDC has the best technical expertise that Malawi can leverage on to develop geothermal resources.

“We are ready to partner with you in this venture. GDC has some of the best expertise in the region,” he said during the meeting also attended by Manager, Audit, Risk and  Compliance (ARC) Mr. Godfrey Shitsama.
