GDC will be one of the key players to champion the direct use of geothermal resources in the region.
During a plenary session of the just concluded 7th Africa Rift Geothermal Facility Conference (ARGeo C-7) held in Kigali, Rwanda,General Manager, Strategy, Research and Innovation Dr. George Muia and Direct Use Manager, Ms. Martha Mburu, informed the delegates how GDC has progressed in the area of direct use.
Dr. Muia chaired the plenary which was also addressed by Ms. Mburu, Ms. Luca Angelino from International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Arni Ragnarsson, Iceland GeoSurvey and Caitlin Smith – US Power Africa.
It was resolved that in the next two years, ARGeo countries will focus on tapping the immense opportunities that direct utilization of geothermal avails for the continent.
The conference noted that the enhanced direct use of geothermal resources is great for fighting hunger and poverty and ultimately enhance the livelihoods of communities living in geothermal-rich localities. Direct use of geothermal resources has the potential to contribute to the socio-economic development of the African continent.
