The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is now purifying its own water for domestic use. The water is filtered using purifying machines which have the capacity to process 200 litres of water per hour.
“This is a great cost-saving mechanism,” says Mr. Martin Waswa who oversees the project. “We operate in very hot conditions that demand a constant supply of water. We had to become innovative. So far, the purification programme is quite exciting.”
Once purification is done, the GDC Geochemistry team carries out lab tests and then takes the samples to Nakuru Water and Sanitation Company (NAWASCO) for further tests and approval.
Paka camp at the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project hosts a huge number of staff who on average drink up to 1000 litres of water a day, an equivalent of 50 units of 18.9 litre water bottle.
