Trachyte

Trachyte is a fine grained, usually porphyritic, extrusive volcanic rock having alkali feldspars and minor mafic minerals as the main component and a possibly small amount of sodic plagioclase.

Most of the volcanic edifices along the Kenya rift are made up of thick lava piles composed of predominantly trachytic lavas which have build up low-angle volcanic shields.
