What contributions has GDC made towards the Kenyan government’s national tree-growing campaign?

In line with the Presidential Directive on the 15 billion tree-growing campaign in 2023, GDC has committed to grow five million trees in the next ten years. This translates to a target of 500,000 trees every year.

GDC conducts ongoing tree planting sessions in the operational areas and Koibatek Forest, part of the areas assigned for rehabilitation by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum in Kericho and Baringo County. The trees being planted at Koibatek Forest are part of the Plantation Establishment and Livelihood Improvement Scheme (PELIS), where plantation trees are planted alongside crops, and the local communities in the catchment areas are responsible for taking care of the young trees. As the tree canopy sets, crop growing is stopped to ensure the successful growth of the trees.
