GDC’s Laura Jemutai carries the day at Research and Innovation symposium

Ms Laura Jemutai, a scientist in Direct Use, emerged top at the second Geothermal Development Company (GDC) Research and Innovation Day held on June 2, 2022. Ms Jemutai clinched the Best Innovative Paper Award for her Direct Use paper. She was ranked best from a rich field of presentations covering geothermal-related topics including Direct Use, Geoscientific data interpretation, project costing, and drilling among others.

“After carefully analyzing the presentations which have all been of high standards, we as the judges have settled on Ms. Laura Jemutai as the person with the best research and innovation paper of this symposium,” announced Mr. John Lagat, Regional Manager – North Rift, and the Chief Judge of the symposium.

Mr. Lagat’s announcement was met with raucous acclamation from the presenters who were gathered to receive the results of their hard work.

“I’m extremely elated to achieve this fete. I never imagined that my paper would be considered the best seeing that I was presenting in a field full of geothermal experts and experienced researchers,” exclaimed an excited Ms. Jemutai.

“Hard work, persistence and the courage to come forward with an idea, is what has brought me here and made me the winner today,” quipped Ms. Jemutai, who was the sole female presenter at the symposium.

The Managing Director & CEO congratulated Ms. Jemutai, lauding her willingness to research and present an award-winning paper. “To carry out research that has emerged the best is a commendable fete, more so, seeing that you are the only female presenter who managed to undertake this demanding task, and developed the best innovative research paper that will go a long way in increasing our efficiency as a Company. Congratulations,” said Eng. Othieno.

The MD also commended the rest of the presenters challenging them to fine-tune their presentations for the benefit of the Company.

“You are all winners in this and I want to reiterate my support for all your papers so that we may grow the productivity of our Company. It is my promise that we will look to actualize your innovations for the benefit of GDC,” he added.

A total of ten papers were presented at the Symposium.
