GDC CSR Initiative boosts Baringo County COVID-19 mitigation efforts

Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has made donations to Baringo County, as part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. The donations will complement the County’s  COVID-19 mitigation efforts.

The donations were presented to Baringo County Governor H.E. Stanley Kiptis and the Baringo County CEC Health Services Hon. Mary Chebet by GDC MD & CEO Eng. Jared O. Othieno’s on Friday 28th August, 2020.

While receiving the donations, Governor Kiptis expressed gratitude to the Company for the move. “I want to thank GDC for the kind gesture to our residents,” stated the Governor. “The donation will go a long way in boosting our county’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts,” he added. 

Speaking during the handover, Eng. Othieno noted that the donations would complement the County’s ongoing efforts. “The donations are aimed at complementing measures Baringo County has implemented in the fight against the spread of COVID-19,” said the MD & CEO. “The donation will assist in COVID-19 prevention measures for communities residing around the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project,” he expounded.

The donations included reusable facemasks, liquid handwashing soap, cooking oil and assorted food items which were later presented to residents in Baringo County.

GDC is currently carrying out exploration drilling in the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project. The Bloc has three prospects: Paka, Korosi and Silali with an estimated potential of 3,000MW which will be developed in phases. GDC has successfully drilled three exploration wells at the Paka Prospect in the project area and exploration drilling is about to begin in Korosi.
