GDC and Kajiado County ink collaborative agreement

GDC and the County Government of Kajiado have signed a Collaborative Framework Agreement (CFA) to strengthen partnerships and spur regional development.

The five-year agreement was formalised at a ceremony on Friday, April 4, 2024, attended by GDC Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Paul Ngugi, and the Governor of Kajiado County, H.E. Joseph Ole Lenku. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a joint development agenda aimed at driving local growth, job creation, and technological progress. They also highlighted the vast potential of geothermal energy—not just for Kajiado County but for Kenya as a whole.

The CFA outlines areas of collaboration that align with the strategic priorities of both parties. For GDC, a key focus is on promoting and marketing the direct use of geothermal energy in agriculture, industrialisation, and tourism—sectors with the potential to transform livelihoods and create wealth. The County Government, on the other hand, is keen to attract value-addition industries that will enhance employment and income opportunities for residents.

“Employment opportunities and social investment initiatives will be central to our shared development agenda,” said Mr. Paul Ngugi.

Environmental sustainability is another shared priority. The agreement provides for measures to ensure that geothermal exploration and utilisation are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner in accordance with national and international standards.

“We are excited that this agreement has finally been signed,” said Governor Ole Lenku. “We now look forward to a fruitful partnership as you continue to develop geothermal energy in this region.”
