Mr. Alex Kamau Wachira

Principal Secretary, Ministry of Energy & Petroleum

The Principal Secretary joins the State Department for Energy with a wealth of experience from the private sector where he has worked previously as an investment banker. His latest assignment was with Faida Investment Bank. PS Wachira has served in various leadership’s positions. He was a founding member of the Bonds Market Association as well as a member of the Steering Committee of the Kenya Association of Stock Brokers and Investment Bankers (KASIB).

Hon. Walter Osebe Nyambati

Chairman (Independent Non -Executive Director)

Hon. Walter Osebe Nyambati is the board Chairman of Geothermal Development Company (GDC). He is a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK). He comes to GDC with over 30 years’ experience in leadership and management having served both in the public and private sector. Previously, he has served in various leadership positions among them Member of Parliament, Vice Chairperson of Parliamentary Service commission and Chairperson Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.

Mr. Stephen Busieney

MD & CEO

Mr. Stephen Busieney has over 15 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting. Prior to joining GDC, he was the Chief Financial Officer for CIMERWA Cement Company Limited, Rwanda.

Mr. Joseph Mwaura Kamau

Director (Alternate to the CS, National Treasury)

FA Joseph Mwaura is a certified Investment and Financial Analyst (ICIFA) with over 30 years experience in Finance, Economics and Investments, has demonstratable expertise in financial management, and Corporate Governance.

He has vast experience in both private and public sectors having served in the banking sector and currently serving as an Economist at the National Treasury. Has experienced in Economic Development, Policy Formulation & Analysis and Budgeting in the public sector.

Holds MBA (Finance) – KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology) South Korea, MA Economics, Finance & Banking (Financial Sector Policy) – Moi University and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics & Economics – University of Nairobi.

During his working profession; has acquired extensive training in; Advanced Trainers Skills Development for Senior Trainers (Kigali – Rwanda), Audit Committee Training, Compensation Training and Training on Making Boards More Effective (Harvard Business School), Project appraisal and Risk Management (Duke University), Senior Management Course (KSG), Corporate Governance for Directors (Center for Corporate Governance), and Oil & Gas Commercialization Transactions Training (Simmons & Simmons UK).

Has sat in various State Corporations Board such as; Kenya Seeds Company Ltd, NHIF, Egerton University, Tourism Regulatory Authority, Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, Meru University of Science and Technology among others.

Richard Mavisi Liahona

Director (Alternate to the PS, Ministry of Energy & Petroleum)

Richard Mavisi Liahona is a seasoned Geologist and Technology Innovation Leadership Practitioner with over 25 years of experience in geo-exploration, science, technology and innovation policy, research management, and strategic planning within the Government of Kenya.

He currently serves as Secretary, Geo-Exploration at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, where he has played a key role in advancing Kenya’s geothermal and geo-energy resource development agenda.

He holds a Master of Science in Geo-informatics from the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation in the Netherlands, a Diploma in Management from the Kenya Institute of Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Nairobi.

Beatrice Marisin Soy

Independent Non -Executive Director

Ms. Beatrice Marisin Soy is a seasoned Human Resources specialist and Executive Coach with over 25 years of experience. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Human Resource Management and a Certified Executive Coach. She has served on multiple corporate boards across diverse sectors in both public and private sectors and has successfully led projects in human capital management and organizational change. She has undertaken many leadership and governance trainings and has a wealth of experience in HR strategy formulation, development, and implementation.

She holds a Master’s degree in Education (Management and Administration) from the University of Manchester, (UK), a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from the University of Nairobi and an Advanced Management Program (AMP) from Strathmore Business School /IESE Business School, Barcelona.

Ms. Soy has held senior leadership roles at Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) as Director of Human Resources and Administration and at Kenya Power company (KPC)as Principal of the Training School (Institute of Energy Studies &Research). She is a certified Executive Coach, Academy of Executive Coaching, (AoEC) UK, certified change Manager &Trainer (Prosci Methodologies &Tools, and a Member of Institute of Directors (k)
