A casing shoe guide joint is a short pipe packed with drillable but hard materials (normally cement) fixed on the casing bottom. Its rounded nose helps guide the casing into the wellbore even through crooked sections. The shoe is screwed on the casing and is glued with a thread-locking compound to prevent loosening while being run into the hole.
