GDC has signed an agreement with Shandong Kerui Oilfield Service Group Co. Ltd to provide well logging and testing services for a geothermal drilling project in Ethiopia.
The agreement, signed on Monday, August 31, 2026, will see GDC deploy a multidisciplinary team comprising a reservoir engineer, reservoir technicians, geochemists and geochemical technicians to provide specialised personnel and technical expertise in high-temperature geothermal well logging, testing and data interpretation for two wells in the Aluto area of Ethiopia.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Ag. MD & CEO Mr. Stephen Busieney, described the agreement as an important milestone in the Company’s commercialisation journey.
“It is encouraging that we are signing one of our first major contracts of the financial year. This engagement will generate additional revenue for GDC while providing our staff with valuable exposure to an international geothermal project. It also presents an opportunity for us to further cement GDC’s position as a leader in geothermal development and technical expertise across the region and the continent.”
He challenged the team to ensure successful delivery of the assignment, noting that securing the contract was only the first step.
“We have done the first part by securing this contract. The next level is execution. We must deliver with professionalism, determination and dedication to keep GDC’s flag flying high. As we undertake this assignment in Ethiopia, I urge our staff to spare no effort in maintaining GDC’s reputation as a regional centre of excellence in geothermal development.”

General Manager, Business Development and Ag. GM Strategy and Planning, Dr. George Muia, commended the teams involved in securing the agreement noting this was the first major operationalisation of GDC’s External Consultancy Policy, which provided a framework for engaging external partners and clients for the Company’s technical expertise.
“This contract is the culmination of a journey that began in September 2025 and demonstrates what can be achieved through collaboration across the organisation. I appreciate the GRC team, led by Ag. Manager Dr. Robert Ogutu, as well as our Legal Services and Finance teams, for their support throughout this process.”
Dr. Muia said the engagement was particularly significant following GDC’s reclassification as a Government-Owned Enterprise (GOE), which places greater emphasis on commercial operations, revenue generation and financial sustainability.
“As a GOE, GDC is required to operate commercially and generate revenue. This is the first contract we are undertaking in line with this new direction. For Business Development, the journey has started in earnest, and we are actively seeking more partners and opportunities that will leverage GDC’s expertise, strengthen our regional footprint and generate additional revenue for the Company.”
