Upbeat GDC begins rig move to Suswa field in readiness for drilling

GDC has officially kicked off its journey to the Suswa Geothermal field, mobilising drilling rigs to move Suswa into active exploration. Suswa now joins Menengai and Baringo–Silali as the company’s third operational field.

Flagging off the rig mobilisation at Menengai Camp, on January 29, 2026, GDC Ag. MD & CEO Mr. Stephen Busieney recognised the milestone, noting, “This marks a defining moment for GDC, moving Suswa from potential to proof. It signals our growth, confidence, and readiness to deliver the next geothermal frontier.”

Estimated to hold up to 300 MW, Suswa will be developed in phases as exploration results guide the work.

General Manager, Drilling and Infrastructure, Eng. Ruben Ngosi acknowledged the magnitude of the work ahead but remained confident in the team’s ability to plan, coordinate, and execute the Suswa project. “We take this as a worthy challenge. It’s a privilege to be the people breaking new frontiers. The team is ready. We have always been. We are not going to disappoint. Support us.”

On her part, GM Corporate Services, Mrs. Irene Onyambu, echoed Mr. Ngosi’s sentiments, noting that the project demonstrates GDC’s institutional growth, provides staff development and career progression opportunities, and showcases the company’s technical expertise.
