Geothermal Development Company (GDC) hosted the Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mr. George Natembeya at the Baringo -Silali Geothermal Project on 18th August, 2020. He was received by GDC’s North Rift Regional Manager Mr. John Lagat at the Paka Prospect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Natembeya applauded the ongoing development of the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Bloc noting that the Project will have a huge impact both regionally and nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am very impressed with what GDC has done in this region,” said Mr. Natembeya. “You can see there is a lot of social transformation among the locals. Most of them have access to clean water and a source of income for those that have been employed by the Company. Cases of insecurity in this area, have now tremendously reduced since operations began,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Natembeya also noted that the Government has identified key projects in the region with the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project being one of those identified in the Rift Valley region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As Regional Coordinators we monitor, support and report on the progress of government projects in our regions. I’m happy that this project is progressing well,” he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his part, Mr. Lagat briefed Mr. Natembeya on the Project’s progress and GDC’s future plans in the region noting that GDC was now working on exploration drilling<\/a> on the next prospect in the Project. “The Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project has three prospects,” explained Mr. Lagat. “We have drilled three exploration wells here at Paka and now the rig has moved to the second prospect in Korosi,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Regional Coordinator was accompanied by members of the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU), Baringo County Commissioner Mr. Henry Wafula and top administrative personnel from the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Baringo-Silali Block has an estimated potential of 3,000MW which will be developed in phases. The first phase will develop 300MW: 100MW from each of the prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
