How did you get into engineering\/science?<\/strong><\/em> I come from a family of engineers. My father is a Civil Engineer whose tasks involve designing and constructing bridges, buildings, roads, and ports. My uncles are also Civil Engineers. As a child, I enjoyed finding out how things worked. Engineering allows me to solve problems affecting society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most memorable moment in your engineering\/science journey at GDC?<\/em><\/strong> I was part of the team that was involved in drilling<\/a> Well2 at the Menengai Geothermal Project. It was an exciting experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the future of geothermal energy in the world?<\/em><\/strong> The future for Geothermal energy is bright with many untapped sites.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate change is a global concern and nations are encouraged to counter the effects. One viable option is the development of geothermal energy.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engineers have improved geothermal power plant technology, which limits the amount of greenhouses gases emitted for every kilowatt-hour of electricity generated from geothermal fields. The greenhouse gas level is lower as compared to the amount emitted from fossil fuel power plants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides the energy benefits, geothermal waters in Kenya can be utilized for heating in industrial processes which in turn would assist the community and impact their livelihoods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What message would you send to young women thinking of taking up engineering\/science courses and careers?<\/em><\/strong> Take a leap of faith and do it. It’s not going to be a smooth road devoid of bumps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brace yourself for the bumps because they will offer additional learning lessons. You only live once. You don’t want your tombstone to read: ‘Played it safe.’ R. Dawson <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is your mantra in life as a woman in science?<\/em><\/strong> Every step which I take is valuable to my career. As I take up more steps, I endeavor to help others rise! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which woman in Science do you admire most?<\/em><\/strong> Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do you admire her?<\/em><\/strong> I admired her resilience and courage. She was vocal in her support for environmental conservation. She stood up for what she believed in. <\/p>\n\n\n
