GDC hosted the Human Resource Capacity Building (HRCB) cluster of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP) on Friday, May 9, 2025, for a monitoring and evaluation mission. The focus of the visit was to assess progress on the harmonisation of training fees and the removal of non-tuition fee barriers for students from NCIP member states—Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation began its visit at GDC’s Geothermal Centre of Excellence, located at the Polo Centre in Nakuru, where they received a comprehensive overview of GDC’s training programmes and capacity-building initiatives. They then proceeded to Menengai for a tour of GDC’s laboratories and geothermal drilling<\/a> simulator, gaining firsthand insight into the company’s technical training environment and field capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are impressed with GDC’s facilities—both the lecture and practical components. These resources are critical for delivering effective, hands-on geothermal training,” said Mr. Julius Gitau, NCIP Team Lead.<\/p>\n\n\n

During a briefing session, Dr. Robert Ogutu, Acting Manager of GDC’s Geothermal Resource<\/a> Centre, shared plans to establish a fully-fledged training facility at the company’s Kabarak site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are looking to expand our training capacity by relocating to Kabarak. We hope to secure support through the NCIP framework to realise this vision,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit forms part of a broader NCIP initiative to ensure equitable access to training across the region’s Centres of Excellence. It follows earlier recommendations by the HRCB cluster for national-level assessments. Through visits like this, the cluster seeks to standardise tuition and non-tuition fees across member states, track progress, and address challenges in order to advance regional integration in capacity building.<\/p>\n\n\n
