The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has completed the construction of the second waterline in the geothermal rich Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project, which will see the company up its drilling<\/a> operations in the bloc. Pumping of water using two waterlines will ensure sufficient supply of water to support three rigs drilling<\/a> at the same time, reducing downtime caused by insufficient water supply, consequently boosting drilling<\/a> efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 36-kilometre line, which starts from Lake Baringo’s Chesirani water intake to Pump Station 2 (PS2) in Paka, was constructed by GDC’s internal expertise drawn from the Infrastructure Development and Drilling<\/a> Planning and Logistics (DPL) departments. The construction of the line which is connected to the existing Pump Station 2 to Korosi pipeline at Kadingding, in Baringo County, took approximately six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to GDC Ag. Manager Infrastructure Development Mr Joseph Mberia, the completion of the line is set to scale up drilling<\/a> operations in the area, which will ensure that GDC achieves its goal of delivering sufficient steam<\/a> to support power generation from the bloc. Water is a critical drilling fluid<\/a>, with large quantities required in the various stages of the drilling<\/a> process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have carried out pressure test pumping of the pipeline and can confidently confirm that the line has been done to the standard required, and will support the delivery of water to our drilling<\/a> rigs in the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project,” said Mr Mberia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The undertaking has also served to strengthen GDC’s engagement with the communities around the project area by providing employment to local youths. Working with the youth around our project area to provide support during the construction of the line has seen GDC build a strong bond with the neighbouring community. The line will also see GDC increase water supply to the community for domestic use and livestock consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GDC is currently undertaking drilling<\/a> operations in the Baringo -Silali Geothermal Project estimated to have a capacity of 3,000MW of geothermal potential. The company has so far drilled ten (10) wells in the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
