This year’s World Engineering Day (WED) was celebrated on March 4, 2022, under the theme “Build Back Wiser — Engineering the Future”. This is an international day proclaimed in 2019 by the United Nationals Educations, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO based on a proposal from the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). It is a day meant to celebrate the breakthroughs made by the engineering fraternity across the globe with an aim of tackling the challenges faced by engineers around the globe while also developing strategic frameworks and best practices for the implementation of engineering solutions for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GDC was not left behind in this year’s celebration, as a host of its engineers joined the rest of the global engineering community in marking this special day. Ms Diana Macodawa, a GDC engineer attached to the Drilling<\/a> Planning and Logistic (DPL) department said the day was an indication that the world appreciated engineers and the work they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “We must strive to maintain the expected standards in our engineering undertakings at all times. This day offers us an opportunity to celebrate the strides we have made so far in the field, as we plan for the future, in line with this year’s theme of building back wiser. At GDC, we are not only building the country but are also saving the planet by developing geothermal energy, which is clean and renewable,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
