Twenty (20) officers from the Djiboutian Office of Geothermal Energy Development (ODDEG) arrived in Kenya on Monday, June 28, 2021, to undertake a Geothermal Specialized Training at Geothermal Development Company (GDC), as they seek to boost their knowledge on geothermal issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This training program is being implemented under the auspices of the Interim Project Coordinating Unit (IPCU) – Africa Geothermal Centre of Excellence (AGCE) with funding from the Bundesanstalt fur Geowissenschaften and Rohstoffe (BGR). It will see students trained in various components of geothermal development ranging from sampling to analysis of samples and even actual geothermal well drilling<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GDC Strategy, Research, and Innovation General Manager Dr. George Muia officially opened the training on behalf of GDC MD & CEO, Eng. Jared O Othieno. UNEP\/UNEP_ARGEO Head of Energy Unit Dr. Meseret Teklemariam Zemedkun also graced the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the opening ceremony held in Nakuru, Dr. George Muia welcomed the ODDEG delegation for the month-long training. “We are indeed honored to host you and are grateful for the confidence that Djibouti has shown in our experts’ capabilities,” said Dr. Muia. “We have a pool of experts who will facilitate the training and are confident that you will gain valuable knowledge on geothermal that will go towards developing green energy in your country,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facilitation will be done wholly by GDC’s experts drawn from various departments within the company, including Geothermal Resource<\/a> Assessment, Geothermal Resource<\/a> Management, Drilling<\/a> and Infrastructure, as well as Environment and Safety among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second time that ODDEG is choosing GDC as their training partner, a move that demonstrates the effort by GDC’s Geothermal Centre of Excellence (GCE) team in positioning the Company as a leader in the geothermal knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
