GDC will this week mark World Environment Day along with the global community, focusing on this year’s theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”
GDC remains committed to implementing the best environmental management practices. The Company has aligned its efforts with Kenya’s national tree-growing campaign, which aims to increase forest cover by planting 15 billion tree seedlings by 2032. GDC has been allocated a target of planting 5,000,000 tree seedlings in the next 10 years under the president’s directive.
Under the umbrella of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum’s target of rehabilitating forests in Kericho and Baringo counties, GDC has been actively involved in tree planting within the Koibatek Forest under the Plantation Establishment and Livelihood Improvement Scheme (PELIS). Integrating tree planting with community-driven care ensures the successful growth of forests, supporting both ecological balance and local livelihoods.
GDC Managing Director and CEO Mr. Paul Ngugi also encourages staff to plant trees on their pieces of land in a private capacity.
As we commemorate World Environment Day, let us remember that “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience” are not just themes but urgent calls to action. Through collaborative efforts, we can address these challenges and pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
Greetings. Good care for our Mother earth
Good ecological concerned.
