GDC and Baringo County sign Collaborative Framework Agreement

Baringo County Governor H.E Stanley Kiptis and GDC MD & CEO Eng. Jared O. Othieno signed a Collaborative Framework Agreement (CFA). Through this agreement, the two entities will collaborate in among other areas marketing of geothermal energy technology, Geothermal Direct Use feasibility studies, investments in geothermal energy technology, and development of geothermal powered industrial parks.

Speaking during the signing ceremony held at GDC Kawi House Offices on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, GDC MD & CEO Eng. Jared O. Othieno expressed his delight in sealing the agreement noting that Baringo county held a special place in GDC as it was home to GDC’s most expansive geothermal project, the Baringo – Silali which has an estimated potential of 3000MW covering three prospect areas: Paka, Korosi and Silali.

“By signing this agreement, GDC aims to promote and market geothermal Direct Use of energy in agriculture, industrialization, and tourism to impact the local community, improve their livelihood and subsequently create wealth,” said Eng. Othieno.

He added, “Baringo County is keen to introduce industries in value addition to create wealth and employment for residents, I have no doubt that Baringo County will journey with us in our quest to develop geothermal resources for our nation and in supporting the government to achieve the Big 4 agenda, namely food security, affordable housing, manufacturing, and affordable healthcare for all.”

On his part, Baringo County Governor H.E. Hon. Stanley Kiptis expressed the County’s pleasure in signing the Agreement, saying the CFA would help improve the livelihoods of the residents of Baringo County.

“We are pleased to be entering into this partnership with GDC as this agreement will go a long way in improving the socio-economic development of the people of Baringo County and the country at large,” remarked Governor Kiptis.

Hon. Kiptis added that the Baringo County residents were looking forward to the implementation of the agreement and were hopeful of the great benefits they would draw from it.

The signing comes in the backdrop of a CFA which was signed last year between GDC and Nakuru County. Discussions are underway with the Kajiado County to develop a similar collaborative agreement.
