KfW happy with Baringo-Silali Geothermal progress

Wednesday, February 21, 2018-A delegation from Germany’s KfW Bank and a local consultant are happy with the progress and timelines of the ongoing Baringo- Silali Geothermal Project.

At a recent meeting attended by Managing Director and CEO Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe, KfW’s Project Manager Mr. Michael Andres, GDC management, Baringo-Silali project team and the local consultant, Bureau Veritas, the team indicated their satisfaction with the work.

“We are happy with the progress and this meeting was key as we have understood the timelines. We are committed to the Kenyan government, and ready to support GDC, work together with the Ministry and the National Treasury to ensure this project runs well,” said Mr Andres, KfW’s Principal Project Manager, Energy & Financial Sector, Eastern Africa. He was accompanied by Mr. Jeff Murage, the Program Coordinator, Energy – Eastern Africa.

While giving his remarks, Eng. Ole Nchoe stated that GDC will play a critical part in reducing the dependency on hydro power.

“We therefore must adhere to project deadlines and comply with the terms of agreement.”

He added that GDC has been well received by the community, which will receive at least 20 community water points that will ease the burden for the community for both human consumption and for their animals.

“Projects have many challenges and we have weathered many, there are still more to come but our commitment to the success of this project is unwavering. We must succeed,” said the MD.

The Managing Director & CEO of Bureau Veritas Mr. Ravi Mysore said they are happy working with GDC and thanked KfW for supporting the project.
