Nakuru: Tuesday June 5, 2012

GDC has planted 10, 000 seedlings to mark the World Environment Day.

As part of its green energy agenda, GDC planted the seedlings in Naivasha, Menengai, and in the North Rift region.

The climax of the weeklong activities was in Menengai where the Board of Directors, Management, staff, provincial administration, pupils and the community thronged the caldera to plant a seedling each.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Paul E.O. Gondi, the chairman Board of Directors urged staff to be champions and crusaders for a green environment.

“Today, you sweated for a noble course. At GDC, we shall encompass participation of employees in various initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and set long-term objectives of the same,” said Mr. Gondi.

In a statement read on his behalf by the General Manager, Dr. Peter Omenda, the MD & CEO urged staff to be responsible custodians of the environment.

“Sound environment practices are envisioned in GDC’s work. Three years since inception, we have managed to empower local stakeholders in Central, South and North Rift in planting trees,” Dr. Simiyu said.

He noted that the company targets to plant at least 2 million seedlings in two years’ time. In the past three years GDC has planted a total of 600,000 seedlings, the number is still growing.
