H.E. President Mwai Kibaki has conferred on Dr. Silas Masinde Simiyu, the GDC MD, the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (M.B.S).  This is a The President with Dr. Simiyu in a past event in NairobiPresidential Award bestowed to citizens who have demonstrated exemplary performance in their disciplines for purposes of national development.  Dr. Simiyu is among distinguished Kenyans who were garlanded by the president at State House Nairobi during the 48th Jamhuri Day Celebrations.

In an official booklet titled “State Investiture of Honors and Awards bestowed by H.E. Hon. Mwai Kibaki..."  Dr. Simiyu was credited for his geothermal work in KenGen and opening up of the Menengai Geothermal Project. He was described as “a renowned geothermal expert and distinguished scholar.” Therefore, “he is awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear medal (M.B.S) for his outstanding commitment to duty,” the booklet stated in part.

An elated Dr. Simiyu thanked the President for the award.  He reaffirmed his commitment to the geothermal agenda saying this country will be transformed for the better in the wake of affordable, green and reliable energy.
