The Government has lauded the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) for funding the Menengai project which has made great progress and massive achievements.
Speaking at a Nairobi hotel on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 during a meeting with the bank’s regional leadership and a host of international journalists, the Principal Secretary Ministry of Energy, Eng. Dr Joseph Njoroge, said that harnessing of geothermal power and green energy production will change Kenya’s national energy mix and improve many lives.
“GDC will play a key role in harnessing geothermal power and we thank AfDB for being a key partner in this development. Kenya is currently a continental power house in geothermal development,” said the PS during the breakfast meeting attended by AfDB’s Chief Regional Power Systems Officer Mr. Alemayehu Wubeshet and Dr. Humphrey Ndwiga, AfDB’s Regional Power Operations Manager at the East Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office (RDGE).
The meeting was also attended by the GDC Board Chair, Mr. Gershom Otachi Bw’Omanwa, the Managing Director & CEO Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe and General Manager for Resource Development Mr. Cornel Ofwona.
Mr. Otachi said GDC has made huge progress in Menengai and has also started drilling activities in the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project.
While addressing the meeting, GDC Managing Director & CEO Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe thanked AfDB for the commitment and sustained assistance adding that plans to construct the first independent power plant are on course.
