GDC Managing Director & CEO makes courtesy call on Rift Valley Regional Commissioner

GDC MD & CEO Eng. Johnson P. Ole Nchoe on Monday, 25th March 2019, paid a courtesy call to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mr. Mongo Chimwaga at his Nakuru office. Top on the agenda was security enhancement and support from the Regional Commissioner for the GDC Geothermal Projects, located within the Rift Valley Region; Menengai Geothermal Project and the Lake Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project.

The MD was accompanied by the GDC Regional Managers, Central Rift Mr. Paul Ngugi and North Rift Regional Manager, Mr. John Lagat. The Manager Community Relations Ms. Grace Mwai, Manager Drilling Equipment Maintenance Mr. Rueben Ngosi and the Deputy Manager Security Mr. Julius Karori were also present.

The Regional Commissioner (RC) was updated on the progress of the two geothermal projects under the vision 2030 flagship. The MD informed the RC that the two projects are now at an advanced stage with huge installations and investments already in place that require Regional Commissioner’s support in terms of enhanced Security and sensitization of the host communities.

The Courtesy call was in response to the recent government directive that Regional Commissioners should oversight government projects within their areas of jurisdiction. The parties agreed to enhance corporation to overcome any likely challenges to the projects to ensure the project implementation and enhance acceptance by the community. GDC requested the Regional Commissioner’s support on emerging challenges to the implementation of the two projects.

Welcoming the MD & CEO and GDC team, the Regional Commissioner, Rift Valley appreciated the meeting and the projects updates. He noted the request from GDC for support on security of the mega geothermal projects within the region and said it would be taken up immediately by the Regional Development Committee. He also said that the necessary assessment done to determine best management options for ensuring that the projects are secure and that there are no obstacles hindering implementation.

The RC also informed GDC on the Greening Kenya Initiative Presidential Directive to all counties to plant 5 million trees. MD and CEO committed that GDC would support the initiative by planting trees within the Menengai caldera and identified areas within the Baringo-Silali block.
